We were just very lucky to happen upon some very engaged parents. One of them stays in the class with her kids because she doesn't have much time with them during the week, and she wants to be with them. Not as sure about the other one, but she's new to the area, so maybe she stays in the class to get out of the house more and meet new people. Or maybe they're both genuinely interested in the class (I hope so!) The first parent I mentioned was invited to a musical fireside and a Book 1 by a family member a while ago, and the second was contacted very recently during outreach. At the end of our most recent class, we took some time to discuss with the parents a few points about class logistics and content. They really are engaged in the process; it's great. I think it's part teamwork, part confirmation, and all unity. We couldn't have built this all up without a strong, unified teaching team that is dedicated to working in a neighbourhood, everyone doing their part, like a well-oiled machine—or perhaps just like a "team" ought to be?

I'll post more about the workings of our teaching team in a future post. also, do check out my <a href="http://childrensclasses.org/2009/12/05/chinatown-class-dec-5th-2009/" rel="nofollow">most recent post</a> for more insights.

These are great write ups - thank you! Could you perhaps share a bit more about how participants engage with parents? It sounds from this post like the parents are there for the class - is that right? If so, how did that happen, and how have relationships with the parents evolved?
